About the Role
We are seeking a Data Engineer with a BI focus to design, build, and evolve the data foundation that powers analytics, decision-making, and operational efficiency at Cross Creek. This role will own our data architecture, including building a scalable data warehouse, developing data pipelines, and enabling reporting used by investment, finance, and operations teams.
The ideal candidate has strong SQL and Python engineering skills, understands data modeling, and can turn fragmented internal and external data sources into a clean, documented data platform. This role is highly cross-functional and hands-on, with autonomy to shape how data is structured and used across the firm.
This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah (in office).
Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Engineering
- Design and implement a centralized data warehouse to support analytics across CRM, finance, portfolio metrics, and operational systems.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.
- Define and enforce data models, schemas, and standards for consistency and scalability.
- Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Optimize database performance and query efficiency.
- Connect data from multiple systems (MySQL, Salesforce, Excel/CSV workflows, third- party APIs).
- Automate ingestion from recurring sources such as portfolio updates and reporting files.
- Develop secure, reusable connectors and ingestion frameworks.
- Support visualization and reporting by preparing semantic data layers in the warehouse.
- Maintain and improve existing Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Design and prototype tools that make it easier for business users to access and interact with data.
- Work closely with investment, finance, and operations teams to understand data needs.
- Serve as the technical owner of the data platform and datasets.
- Establish best practices for data documentation, versioning, and governance.
Qualifications:
Required
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or backend data roles.
- Strong SQL expertise (MySQL preferred) including schema design, indexing, query optimization.
- Solid Python experience building ETL processes and working with APIs.
- Experience designing relational data models and working with normalized/star schemas.
- Ability to design systems that handle messy real-world data (CSV, Excel, manual processes).
- Strong problem-solving and ownership mindset.
